Curriculum Vitae

Carolyn Henderson

I graduated from University of Maryland with a BA in Criminology and Criminal Justice in 2005. I then worked as a paralegal at a workers’ compensation law firm in Norfolk, Virginia for several years until deciding to go back to school. My second degree is a BS in Biochemistry with a minor in Biology from Old Dominion University, which I obtained in 2016. My undergraduate research was done under the direction of my PI, Dr. Nazir Barekzi. This research focused on a host range study of mycobacteriophage.

I joined the Rosenthal lab working under the direction of Dr. Manfred Schartl in 2016. This has allowed me to shift my focus from microbiology to molecular biology. My project is still in the early stages, but will focus on the genes involved in melanoma regulation in Xiphophorus.

When I am not in the lab or at classes, I enjoy cooking, swimming, reading, and as many action/horror films as I can get my hands on. I am also slowly trying to get back into running again.
